5 common brushing mistakes
- Stopping at 45 seconds. Two full minutes, twice a day, is the standard advice.
- Scrubbing hard. Use gentle, short strokes with a soft-bristled brush.
- Missing the gumline. Tilt the bristles about 45° toward the gums.
- Forgetting the inside surfaces, especially behind the lower front teeth.
- Keeping a worn-out brush. Replace it every 3–4 months, or sooner if the bristles fray.

Brushing timer FAQ
How long should you brush your teeth?
Two minutes, twice a day, with a fluoride toothpaste. That's the American Dental Association's guidance. Splitting your mouth into four quarters of about 30 seconds each makes it easy to hit every surface. Read the full guide.
Why does the timer split my mouth into four quarters?
Quarters give you a simple way to spread two minutes evenly, so the back teeth get as much time as the front. The trainer moves you to the next quarter every 30 seconds.
Does the trainer save any personal data?
No. Streaks, badges and your brush-replacement date are saved only in this browser on this device. Nothing personal is sent to us, and the certificate name is never stored.
How often should I replace my toothbrush?
Every 3 to 4 months, or sooner if the bristles look frayed. Here's why.
